Carbon Neutral

Carbon Neutral Program

Cars & Climate Change

Everyday, the cars we drive produce hundreds of kilograms of carbon dioxide. It’s all part of the normal operation of the internal combustion engine - something that many of us simply accept.

The emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are trapping the earth’s heat in the atmosphere - leading to rising global temperatures, climate change and an uncertain future for our environment.

A very efficient way to offset the carbon dioxide that your car produces is to plant enough trees to soak or ‘lock up’ the carbon dioxide.

The CMI Toyota Carbon Neutral Program

CMI Toyota was the first automotive retailer in South Australia to develop an initiative that enables customers to offset carbon dioxide emissions from their new vehicles. The CMI Toyota Carbon Neutral program provides new car buyers with the opportunity to offset a portion of the CO2 emissions that will be produced by their vehicle under normal driving conditions.

Your donation amount (fully tax deductible) will be calculated to cover the cost of planting enough trees to offset the carbon dioxide emissions from your car on the CMI Forest.

Download the CMI Carbon Neutral Brochure for further information.

The CMI Forests

To date the CMI Carbon Neutral program has offset 5,700 tonnes of CO2 or 20 million kilometres of vehicle travel. In doing so, more than 14 hectares of former farmland has been revegetated through the planting of some 15,000 trees and shrubs.

There are now two CMI forests; the first is located in the lower Murray-Darling Basin while a second planting has begun at Langhorne creek. All trees planted at these sites are legally registered on the land title to protect them from harm, even if the land is sold.

The site is planted and maintained on our behalf by not for profit organisation, The Canopy Project.
